Concrete seawall cap along a Crystal River waterway

CRYSTAL RIVER, FLORIDA

Seawall Repair Crystal River

Seawall repair in Crystal River often starts with what is bolted to the wall: city code allows davits and lifts on seawalls only when they are built to sound engineering practice that protects the wall’s structural integrity (City LDC Sec. 10, Docks 3.k).

Licensed Permits handled Florida waterfront

We connect Crystal River owners on Kings Bay and the river canals with licensed marine contractors who handle the wall and the equipment together.

Free inspection, a written scope, no obligation.

Heights and setbacks

A davit or lift mounted on a seawall may rise no more than 17 feet above mean high water, with the elevation certified by the builder. Other over-water structures stop at 6 feet above mean high water, and buildings keep 10 feet back from the mean high water line.

Two storms, two records

A USGS sensor at the mouth of the Crystal River read 9.0 feet above mean higher high water during Helene in 2024, a year after Idalia peaked at 7.01 feet on the Crystal River gage (National Hurricane Center). Walls that sat in both should be checked for lost backfill and cracked caps.

Why it matters

Permits on the water

Work on attached docks, davits and lifts needs a city building permit and a city inspection first. State-owned bottom needs an FDEP letter of consent, and fill or dredging needs its own permit; installing pilings is the only exception.

Kings Bay is a federal manatee refuge, so check the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service sanctuary rules before a barge goes in.

A free inspection tells you which one you are looking at.
