Concrete seawall cap along a Islamorada waterway

ISLAMORADA, FLORIDA

Seawall Repair Islamorada

Seawall repair in Islamorada keeps the existing footprint and repairs only what upland integrity needs, and any work waterward of mean high water needs Army Corps and DEP approval (Village Code Secs. 30-1543 and 30-1545).

Licensed Permits handled Florida waterfront

We connect Islamorada owners with licensed marine contractors who know the village code.

Free inspection, a written scope, no obligation.

Riprap and vegetation

The code says damaged seawalls are to be repaired with riprap and native shoreline vegetation, and allows bulkheads only where riprap with filter cloth and plants is not feasible. Other subsections allow vertical structures on altered shorelines under set criteria, so have your contractor confirm which applies to your lot.

Why it matters

Open water

New hardening on open water requires extreme erosion, more than 1 foot a year for 10 years, or a permanent structure under imminent threat. A 6 inch swale, berm or curb goes landward, and half the hardened shoreline is planted. Work waterward of mean high water uses NAVD 88 as its datum (Sec. 30-32).

A seawall permit on a canal or on Florida Bay frontage needs Army Corps and DEP sign-off first. The Lignumvitae Key Aquatic Preserve lies between Upper and Lower Matecumbe Keys.

A free inspection tells you which one you are looking at.

What a free inspection includes

A contractor comes to your property, looks at the structure above and below the waterline where needed, and tells you what is actually happening.

You get a written scope and estimate. No obligation, no trip fee.

  • On-site assessment of the structure and surrounding soil
  • Photos and a plain-English explanation of the problem
