DESTIN, FLORIDA

Dock Builders Destin

Dock builders in Destin keep a pier to the lesser of 20% of waterway width or 200 feet, except in Choctawhatchee Bay, and no longer than the lot’s width at mean high water (Destin LDC Sec. 11.05.01).

Licensed Permits handled Florida waterfront

We connect Destin owners with licensed marine contractors who design to it.

Slips and frontage

Slip density is one per 8 feet of frontage, or one per 45 feet on canals with at least two per canal lot. Lots with under 50 feet of frontage get no individual dock unless it runs parallel to shore. On Choctawhatchee Bay, docks may run 1.5 times the lot width.

Approvals

Harbor and Waterways Board review and City Council approval come before state and federal permits, then final Council approval and the building permit (LDC Sec. 11.05.02). Neighbors across waterways under 100 feet wide get written notice.

Why it matters

Lights and mooring

Docks 100 feet or longer need a white dusk-to-dawn light at the end, and mooring at the end of a maximum-length pier is limited to 72 hours.

A free inspection tells you which one you are looking at.

What a free inspection includes

A contractor comes to your property, looks at the structure above and below the waterline where needed, and tells you what is actually happening.

You get a written scope and estimate. No obligation, no trip fee.

  • On-site assessment of the structure and surrounding soil
  • Photos and a plain-English explanation of the problem
  • Written estimate with scope and materials
  • Repair versus replacement guidance where both are options
