MARATHON, FLORIDA

Dock Builders Marathon

Dock builders in Marathon run docks perpendicular to the shore, no more than 100 feet waterward of mean low water and no more than 10% of the waterbody width (Marathon LDR Sec. 104.64).

Licensed Permits handled Florida waterfront

We connect Marathon owners with licensed marine contractors who design to it.

Free consultation and a written scope.

Depth and access

The end of the dock needs at least 4 feet at mean low water, with continuous access to open water at least 4 feet deep over a 20 foot wide channel, or a marked channel. Docks may not end over seagrass or hardbottom unless FDEP and the Corps allow it.

Lighting

No dusk-to-dawn lights; fixtures stay under 6 feet, shielded, on motion or 3-way switches, with amber reflectors.

On open water such as Florida Bay or the Atlantic, the same 100 foot and 10% limits apply.

Why it matters

The application

Federal, state and water management district permits come before the city building permit. The application includes proof of riparian title, copies of those permits and sealed survey drawings showing the waterway, mean high water line and depths.

A free inspection tells you which one you are looking at.

What a free inspection includes

A contractor comes to your property, looks at the structure above and below the waterline where needed, and tells you what is actually happening.

You get a written scope and estimate. No obligation, no trip fee.

  • On-site assessment of the structure and surrounding soil
  • Photos and a plain-English explanation of the problem
  • Written estimate with scope and materials
  • Repair versus replacement guidance where both are options
