ISLAMORADA, FLORIDA
Dock Builders Islamorada
Dock builders in Islamorada build T and similar perpendicular docks, no more than 10% of the waterbody width and with at least 4 feet at mean low water at the end (Village Code Sec. 30-1547).
We connect Islamorada owners with licensed marine contractors who design to the village code.
Free consultation and a written scope.
Long docks
Piers stay within twice the frontage or 100 feet, whichever is less. A long-dock variance requires notice to neighbors, who can request a hearing within 35 days, and is not available on Lower Matecumbe Key (Sec. 30-1550). The village approved a 128 foot dock on Florida Bay at Plantation Key in 2020.

Why it matters
Seagrass and preserves
Over seagrass, the end of the dock needs 5 feet at mean low water unless a DEP exemption applies, and docks may not end over hardbottom. The Lignumvitae Key Aquatic Preserve covers 6,700 acres between Upper and Lower Matecumbe Keys.
The planning director approves deviations, and the dock permit needs Army Corps and DEP approval for work waterward of mean high water.
