KEY LARGO, FLORIDA
Dock Builders Key Largo
Dock builders in Key Largo design to Monroe County’s depth rule: at least 4 feet of water at mean low water at the end of the dock, with continuous access to open water (LDC Sec. 118-12).
We connect Key Largo owners with licensed marine contractors who design to the county code.
Free consultation and a written scope.
Width and length
A dock may not exceed 10% of the waterbody width, measured mean low water to mean low water, and dock, vessel and lift together may not take more than 25% of the navigable portion. Pier docks stay 4 feet wide and no longer than twice the frontage or 100 feet, whichever is less.
Permits
DEP and Army Corps permits come before the county permit. Applications include a benthic survey, and a bathymetric survey for docks ending over seagrass or hardbottom.

Why it matters
Over seagrass
Where the dock crosses seagrass or hardbottom, water must stand at least 4 feet above the organisms at mean low water, and the deck sits at least 5 feet above mean high water. Terminal platforms stay under 160 square feet and use grated material.
