Concrete seawall cap along a St. Petersburg waterway

ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA

Seawall Repair St. Petersburg

Seawall repair in St. Petersburg starts with a city permit: Sec. 7-38 of the city code requires one before any seawall, bulkhead or riprap is built or altered.

Licensed Permits handled Florida waterfront

We connect owners in Snell Isle, Shore Acres and Riviera Bay with licensed marine contractors who pull that permit and do the work.

The inspection is free and the scope comes in writing.

Replacing a wall within one foot of the old face

Pinellas County lets an existing seawall be repaired or replaced without a county dredge and fill permit, as long as the new face sits no more than 1 foot in front of the old one (County Code Sec. 58-573).

Push the wall further out and it becomes a fill project with its own county review. Ask the contractor where the new face will sit before you sign.

95 miles of private wall, and a plan to raise it

The city counts about 95 miles of privately owned seawall against roughly 15 miles it owns, and it is now writing a Seawall Master Plan.

City officials have said that plan may raise the minimum elevation for private seawalls. No number has been set yet, so a wall repaired now is worth designing with room to go higher.

Why it matters

When the county asks for riprap at the toe

The same section lets the county require riprap at the base of a replacement wall, or wherever more than 25% of the face is being repaired. On a long run of failing panels, budget for it from the start.

A free inspection tells you which one you are looking at.
