PUNTA GORDA, FLORIDA
Seawall Repair Punta Gorda
Seawall repair in Punta Gorda depends on where you live: the city owns the canals and seawalls in Punta Gorda Isles and Burnt Store Isles, and the canal district repairs or replaces those walls, while owners outside the districts are solely responsible (City Code Ch. 6, Sec. 3-2).
We connect Punta Gorda owners with licensed marine contractors for the work that falls to them.
Free inspection, a written scope, no obligation.
When the district fixes your wall
After notice, owners must move their boats, and relocate docks and lifts, which they restore at their own cost; the district restores sod only. Owners must keep the yard level with the top of the seawall cap, attach nothing to the wall or cap, and keep tie-off anchors 6 feet or more landward.
The system covers 91 miles of seawall and 45 miles of canals, paid for with non-ad valorem assessments.
Outside the districts
Any seawall, bulkhead or piling work in the city’s waterways needs a city permit. Standard jobs go through the Building Division; anything else needs a Canal Construction Special Permit with a $450 fee and a hearing (Sec. 2-1).

Why it matters
Ian’s damage
Ian made landfall near Punta Gorda on September 28, 2022 at 125 knots (National Hurricane Center), and about 582 parcels had seawall damage, more than 6.5 miles in PGI and about 0.75 mile in BSI (WGCU). The city pays 5% of the repair cost, with FEMA and the state covering the rest.

You get a written scope and estimate. No obligation, no trip fee.
- On-site assessment of the structure and surrounding soil
