What counts as substantial

Seawall work costing $500 or more per linear foot is a substantial improvement under Sec. 54-61. Smaller repairs can go in at 4 feet NAVD88 if the wall is designed to be raised to 5.7 feet later.

Applicants submit an itemized seawall cost breakdown, and an as-built survey with an engineer’s certification afterwards.

City grants

The city has announced Private Property Adaptation grants of up to $20,000 per property for seawall work, paid back after the job is done.
