Wooden docks and pilings in front of canal-front homes in St. Petersburg at dusk

ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA

Dock Repair St. Petersburg

Dock repair in St. Petersburg can skip the city dock permit when the work is like-for-like: same decking, same pilings, inside your extended property lines.

Licensed Permits handled Florida waterfront

We put St. Petersburg owners in touch with licensed marine contractors who can tell a repair from a rebuild.

Free inspection, a written scope, no obligation.

Where a repair becomes new construction

LDR Sec. 16.50.130.6 exempts like-for-like replacement from the dock permit, though a building permit may still apply. Change the footprint, add a platform or set a piling outside the property lines and the code treats it as a new dock.

Ask the contractor to state in writing which side of that line your job falls on.

Anything beyond like-for-like needs a city dock permit under LDR Sec. 16.50.130.7.

After Helene’s surge

A dock that went under in 2024 should have its wiring checked and its pilings sounded, not only its boards replaced. Lifting and dropping a structure loosens embedment even when the pilings still stand straight.

Why it matters

Depth at the slip

The code expects at least 1.5 feet of water at mean low water in the slips. On shallow canals off Boca Ciega Bay, check that before rebuilding a slip in the same spot.

A free inspection tells you which one you are looking at.

What a free inspection includes

A contractor comes to your property, looks at the structure above and below the waterline where needed, and tells you what is actually happening.

You get a written scope and estimate. No obligation, no trip fee.

  • On-site assessment of the structure and surrounding soil
  • Photos and a plain-English explanation of the problem
  • Written estimate with scope and materials
  • Repair versus replacement guidance where both are options
